"The journey down any road has to begin somewhere. This particular road, the Gospel Road, began for me in 1973 when a man named Milton Jones explained to me how to be 'saved'. It seemed so simple; "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, confess him as your Lord and Savior, and thou shalt be saved". Then I put Jesus off' for nine more years. Then in October of 1983, on the third day of that month, I called on the Lord Jesus Chris to save me. He did, and I haven't been the same since. You'll find out in Second Corinthians 5:17. Pastor Jones, and the leading of the Holy Spirit inspired me to write this song, a picture of the many convicting and wasted years until my surrender to Jesus Christ. I pray these words bring honor and glory to my Savior, blessing and peace to your heart the reader, and that some poor lost soul may be won to Jesus Christ, saved from wrath to come, through Him, and washed in His blood. This is why I'm helping out in Jamestown City Revival. It's never too late to share the gospel, and you're never too old to preach Jesus! Brother Ike.
'Pastor Jones'
I attended on occasion convenient for my guilt.
I acted pious as I shook each fella's hand.
I smiled at all the ladies as they settled in their pew
Sat and waited for the service to begin.
Take your hymnals please and turn to 107.
After that we sang 343.
'Let the lower lights be burning' seemed so special to me.
He takes the offering, and then he starts to preach.
Oh Lord! He's preaching on salvation. Says I'm going straight to hell.
My entire life just passed before my eyes.
My hands and knickers sweatin', and my feet just won't stay still.
Just looked up again to check the time.
Then as time went by the load got, oh, so heavy.
Until I just couldn't take it anymore.
.. And when I knelt at the altar, there I cried a million tears.
Oh come Lord Jesus, cuz' I just opened up the door.
And since I took Christ as my Savior, you can't scare me anymore.
I ain't nervous. I don't wiggle back and forth.
I just come to hear the message. You can't preach me out the door.
Pastor Jones, my shoes don't smokin' anymore.
I just come to hear the message. You can't preach me out the door.
Pastor Jones, my shoes don't smokin' anymore."
