"A woman and her friend were sitting on the park bench feeding ducks. They expressed interest in the River Revival event and wanted to know what was happening there. I began a conversation about the event, as well as JCR, and our organization’s hope for lifting the city of Jamestown out of its deep depression. The woman told me that she was Catholic, and attends a Catholic church. This caused me to spring into one of the number one questions when presenting the gospel to Catholics. “Have you been born again?” I’ve never experienced a Catholic say yes to this question yet. Catholic doctrine seems to neglect the teachings of Christ, who told Nicodemus that one cannot enter Heaven unless they’ve been born again (John 3:3). She told me that it only depends on if you’ve lived a good life or a bad life, and that is how you earn your way to Heaven. I told her what it meant to be born again, and I shared Romans 6:23 with her, and where her sin would get her in the end. With the new understanding of God’s pure justice in her mind, I then shared the good news of Jesus Christ with her, and proceeded to lead her in prayer to stop trusting in her own goodness, but to instead lean on the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and for her eternity."
